Cadillac is represented in Pirelli World Challenge with the ATS-V.R and now in IMSA with new DPi program. GM racing the Cadillac brand is nothing new(most recently racing in PWC for over decade), so I wouldn't use that as any sign for the future. Corvette Racing will remain GM's only full fledged factory racing team. The next Corvette(C8) will be mid-engine and they will continue the tradition of racing the Corvette brand in IMSA GTLM and make the trip to 24hr Le Mans. The dominance of the mid-engine Ford GT platform has shown how a well a car with a small frontal area does on the long straights of Le Mans. The team has to be licking their chops to get their hands on a mid-engine platform. I am sure they are in on the development.

Plus the Cadillac halo car rumors are old and have pretty much all died down. Everyone is calling the new mule a C8 Corvette. If you look closely you can see the C8 sharing the C7 roof, windshield, side windows, mirrors. This lends to the rumors of Chevy producing the C8 concurrently with the final years of front engine C7.
I think you mean 24hrs of Daytona, not LeMans.

Personally, I don't see a halo car branded a Cadillac selling anywhere near as well as a Corvette. The XLR was based on a Corvette, but didn't sell very well.

Looks like they will have the following cars in the Corvette corral:
Stingray
Grand Sport
Z06
ZR1
Zora - this being a limited run car that they'll be able to use for racing purposes.

Also, I have a relative that works for GM and worked in the automotive industry as an OEM supplier. GM only "leaks out" the information they want to leak out. The photo of the mid-engine car is obviously a drivetrain mule and has nothing to do with the body/shape of what the car would actually look like.
