I too alway thought it was a bit strange. My guesses have been.
- to avoid the turbulence
- to cut down on the noise
- b/c they are running the air conditioner <- this is my leading theory.
When I had my convertible, it was everything down. Man nothing like that feeling other than a motorcycle.
