They reportedly offered him 10/300 and he countered with 12/420.

Who knows what’s true. Maybe they could have found a middle ground. But they have been trying to sign him for a few years without finding it and 12/420 seems outrageous to me. He’s a great player but 10-12 years is a very long time.

He has said he liked Boston but wanted to go to free agency. I suppose they could try to get him back if LAD don’t lock him up long term before the end of the season, but that seems extremely unlikely.
