I don't think that's a bad thing, the non-M 8 series is already wide enough as it is.
The track is the same at 1627mm for both cars, but the M850i has 245mm wide tyres, the M8 has 275mm wide tyres. So the top corner of each tyre is 15mm further out with the M8.

Curiously the rear track on the M850i is 1642mm and on the M8 it is 1632mm. With the rear tyre only being 10mm wider the top corner of each tyre is actually 5mm further in than on the M850i.
