the biggest difference in the 850 has the adaptive handling system. look at the 550 series dyamic handling [$3500] pak. it lets the car ride like a lux car but turns like a sports car. i have a 640 conv and the m850 drives circles around the 640, not counting power. the 640 gets 26 mpg and the 850 gets 25.5 on open freeway at 80. for a little difference get the 850
