bloozemanAZ as a suggestion you might want to ask your dealer to contact the BMW Dingolfing plant to check if any of their robots on the 8 series production line have an '@' in their password?

Perhaps the programmer behind the BMW Connected Drive app, was promoted to work on the production line and he has been creating software updates for the robots which have been progressively applied. The programmers' new software updates do not work with @'s as he doesn't like them and so the robots with @ in their password burp whenever they mount the hood panel causing the abnormally large gap.

Look I know its out there, but its something that needs to be tested and eliminated.

My SA also agreed that it didn't look right but in the end it is within BMW factory spec guidelines. Seriously? I told my SA that I thought that was complete bullshit for a $128K car and he said he understood the sentiment but provided the attached spec guidelines from the tech doing the work.

Figured while I waited for the M850i to be valet'd for my pickup I'd check out the 2nd floor of the dealership which is their M Performance showroom. They had 5 M8s on the floor: one M8C coupe, one M8 coupe and 3 M8 convertibles. The M8C coupe's hood was slightly open as they had a battery charger connected so focused on the other M8s. The Donington Gray Metallic convertible had a flawless hood as

well as the Alpine White convertible. However, the Black Sapphire Metallic coupe's hood panel gap is as fucked up as my M850i.

The bottom line being that although everything is within factory specs this at least in my opinion is a huge QC issue with BMW. My past 20 years has been with Lexus and the BS differential of "within spec" would not ever hit a dealers floor. I chose the M850i over the Lexus LC 500 for the sheer performance and the beyond sub par Infotainment system. However, based on my 20 years with Lexus there is no way I'd be looking at a shit show of a panel gap in my hood if I chose the LC 500. Love the M850i and will live with the gap as everything else about the car makes me grin from ear to ear while just looking at it and even more so when behind the wheel.

BMW if you monitor this forum you've got some QC issues to deal with!
