The 996 will cost more in maintenance for sure. The 996 engine is also known to self destruct in rare occasions. A low risk of catastrophic and definitive failure is a bit scary, even if low risk. That being said, the 996 is certainly a very potent machine as-is, even today, and excellent base for a track car.
