I can't see this working long-term. Too many ways to trace it back to them. Engines these days are so specific to the exact application, with their ECUs and other equipment, you can't simply drop them in another car, and if it's something that's used as a replacement (crash/warranty) being currently produced, then there'd be a bunch of ways to trace it back as a stolen engine. Unless they are holding them hostage or something ridiculous, it just doesn't seem like it'd make the thieves any money.
