Quick update on my M8s - I'm the OP
My "replacement" M8 after a new compressor and condenser, and considerable time in the shop, now blows cold enough to make ice. Problem, at least on this one, solved. I'm happy now with NO issues.
My "original" M8, which failed miserably in the first 30 days of ownership with multiple trips for service, new compressors, new condenser, new programming, and which BMW ultimately took back with very little argument, IS STILL AT THE DEALER MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT, months later... parked out side in the back... sad..
