It has been many years since I tried this, but would recc that you use enclosed trailers, unless it is really a 'driver-quality' paint job. Lots of flying crap on the roadways. Don't cover an open car w/ a tarp, or the wind will 'sand' wherever it flaps and moves (look at how the dealerships protect for transport - stuck-on sheets and foam). Would also suggest not using anybody who goes with 'contractors' or farms out the work as a 'broker' - almost zero accountability (sure you might get some insurance money to pay for the repairs, if you are lucky....). Hemmings should still have a ton of reputable advertisers for this - used to have many full page spreads, ranging from reasonable to 'valet and champagne'. A few years ago, a friend did this but shipped his DD (full of fragile stuff he didn't want movers to touch) and drove the fun car on the cross-country - didn't have to sweat it that he used a cheapo brokerage, and got to see the Rockies the way they were meant to be seen.
