You know I never thought about it, but you have a point. May as well get a M240i with a manual or M2 Comp if you want more. Just seemed to me like it was way more likely for Toyota to not screw up given everything BMW was doing for them, but they couldn't even bother to get the design right. They had the perfect inspiration sitting in their own lineup 20 years ago.
At least the 2 series looks good.
