Child BIRTH was a heavy enough toll, let alone child REARING, back in the 1900's. So if you waited much past 16, she might not make it to the point of shuffling off the child to some other poor sap. BUT, you could just toss the kid a dime and he could get his own damn candy bar.
It's good to see the ACL, and the fashion of chain-mail coming back. I never could afford even mail gauntlets to ride the motorcycle, but I may have to look into that again.
