Well yeah, more flow is good... but its not supposed to be that simple... random differences in pipe diameter, even if its bigger, doesn't necessarily mean better or more flow...
It might create unwanted turbulence that doesn't help the linear flow velocity...

Backpressure is a tricky subject... here is a link that explaines it better than I can...

That saying, I'm not an expert either so I cannot know what all those different applications result... for example 235 MPE will widen the 228 diameter in a random axle-back pipe spot... another application will widen from the catalyst etc...

Of course I'm not expecting any noticeable gain from the last section of the exhaust, I'm doing it mostly for the sound and the look...
But on the other hand I dont want to spend all that money to end up loosing power or braking torque linearity...
