If you do get cited here, it's a fix-it ticket. You go and show them a plate, they sign off on it, and then take it off a block away. I actually duct taped one on a Corvette once. Not kidding; you attach the plate to the plate holder, pull off a couple strips of duct tape and attach that to itself so it becomes two sided, after the officer inspects you just pull it off; holes avoided.
No paint damage with that?
