I had the 650 gc which has the same center console issue and I had the same worry with young kids. It was durable and never got damaged although needed some detailing. You dont always think about scraping skittles and Swedish fish off when you are buying these things.
Have f90 M5 now and debating whether to go this way. Just cant see dumping a 2 year old car for another with exact same powertrain. Kind of hoping this thing shows up in another year or 2 with the new V8 bmw is supposedly working on.
