This is completely marketing decision for BMW to make more money from nothing.
M8 is already overpriced and BMW knows costumers are looking for +20k discount. BMW also knows $13000 difference costs max $3000 (CP includes $3500 for full leather and couple competition package badges) and that's it. changing the map to generate 17 more horse power or minor change in suspension is not a real cost so instead of selling the base 133k with 20k discount, they prefer to offer 20k discount on a 146k car that cost them around 3k more than 133k and not 13k ... 10k saving
People seemed to be alluding that the pricing guide for the 2022 Competitions were a bit more aggressive. calbears mentions the M8C Coupe starting at 130k, but I'm not sure of his source. Some ordering guides have been out, but I haven't seen a pricing guide yet:
