The only advantage to Atlantis Blue these days is its depth perception, something long beach blue can't offer due to the solid metallic pigment - then again it's only noticeable in direct sunlight

I had an e93 335i and an F80 M3 in Atlantis Blue...absolutely love the colour, but exactly as you said, the variations BMW offers now has tainted it a bit...before it would stand out a mile away, now everyone has a similar colour.
