For the honesty side of things among friends, here are my goods and bads.
Good
- No Air Suspension!!! Brilliant.
- Adaptive Suspension actually makes a difference on drive mode selections.
- Looks. Not an ugly angle anywhere.
- Road noise is not too bad.
- Steering. Best BMW steering I have driven this year.
- Seat design and interior materials.
- Power and Sound.
- Handling. Genuinely feels much much smaller than it is.
Bad- ID7 voice recognition, not as accurate as previous IDs.
- Nav Screen not as good as the one in a 7 series.
- Resolution of cockpit / binnacle, seems worse than old one.
- Sound system, weaker underseat subs than in 7 series.
- Very low driving position.

I agree with everything you said with your comparisons to the 7-Series except for the driving position. As the owner of an MSport G12 750i, the seating position is noticeably lower in the 7. People almost fall into it!
I think the overly-emphasized width of the 8 GC may be tricking your mind into thinking it sits lower.
