I would say so. It is a beautiful road but fairly slow driving. If leaves are changing I'd expect it to be really slow.

If you have the time, I recommend staying a night or two in Asheville. Great town. You could conceivably make some day trips to the parkway while staying in Asheville and then take a quicker route home.

Edit: Also, I'd consider taking 74 to 26 between Asheville and Spartanburg to save some time on that leg.
