This caught my attention too when I was seeing pictures of this car model.
From the side view, it seems that this part of the trim is too thick and it does not blend well with the rest of the car around this area. The door line does not seem to blend well with it; maybe it would look better if the door was longer at this part so that the door end line would look continous with shadowline trim. From the angled, side-rear view, it seems a bit better. So, maybe in 3D, it does not look as odd as it appears in that flat side-view picture.
