As for the why: I intended to wrap it in PPF week one--COVID ended any chances of that. After 2 months, the front has been sprayed by WA stones and it cannot be repaired. No shop--all specialists--would even take the job on. I read up on the process and understand why now. One autosalon suggested I have some paint made up, he'll use it to cover the chips as best he can, buff it (which eliminates the matte effect and introduces sheen) and then put a matte wrap PPF on top of the entire front end... it took a little while but we found a matte wrap that matched the natural matte of the paint. This is done now and the end result is meh--better than it was but nowhere close to gone.
I had the front end, wing mirrors and side skirts wrapped since that was where the stone chips were occurring.
Wrapping the entire car is roughly $7,000. The custom paint is $5,000. Then you'll need to add transparent PPF to protect it so plus another $7,000.
No more factory matte for me.

Which brand PPF did you find matches the OEM bmw frozen paint finish? From what I’ve seen so far it seems Xpel stealth is pretty spot on with that.
