Update from my side. The DVSA has been unable to determine from BMW whether there is a defect on the car, and have ordered further action by BMW to get to a resolution to the problem. I am awaiting their call now, but I agree with all of the comments on this forum regarding the problem being specific to the Bridgestones (although I am not an expert).
I'll keep the forum posted when I hear from Beemer.
