You have it reversed. The even numbers are the two door. That's why the 7 is 4 door.

Actually it's not about the number of doors but rather the body shape. Even number are coupe body and odd numbers are sedan/estate.
For instance there is both a 4-series and a 6-series Gran Coupe (and now the 6-series GT) which has 4 doors.
