My sister has owned two Jettas, and I have to say VW is one of those brands that lives up to the German over complexity reputation. A lot of stupid shit on that car and it's all flimsy plastic. Her 2001 you had to remove the battery and about 10 plastic shields to change a head light.

She now has a 2013 with the 2.5L. To change the oil, you have remove the plastic tray that covers the oil filter on the bottom of the engine. 8 bolts. Then the filter is in a plastic canister attached to the engine. They couldn't put that on the top like the 2014 1.8T? On my buddy's 2014 1.8T Jetta you can change the oil without removing any underside plastic.

On the BMW it has a top mounted oil filter, the plastic tray has an access door for the drain bolt, and changing a head light bulb on an E90 325xi takes about 5 minutes.
