You are off to a good start because the hardest part about street photography is going out there with a camera and taking pictures of strangers. Try to get closer to your subjects. Look for interactions. Ask strangers if you can take their picture. There is no set way to do street photography. I have lots of it on my wordpress site. Try this link for starters:

I look for younger and good looking subjects, but many street photographers are great at photographing hard luck stories. Find an interesting sign to use as a backdrop and wait for people to move into the scene. You will never run out of things to try because there are so many people in the city.
