When China is the biggest market. Designs definitely follow suits to a cash cow market. Same goes to Bentley and other luxury marque. Sooner or later Porsche will follow suit.

BMW needs to stop putting that BMW X2 bumper on all their cars, it just doesn't work at all. Can't believe we lost the F12/13/06 for the "6GT" and this

Actually the production (M Sport) X2 looks BETTER to me than the concept, which was an obviously exaggerated & overblown concept design!

As for targeting the same customers!!! An X2 for £40k or an 8 series at £80k... I think not!!

As for the promise of a real sports coupe... It's too big!! Even the 6 series is not a real drivers car, but a fat cats cruiser!

Ugly kidneys.

They just had to put the 6 series kidneys shape on the 8 and it’d be perfect.

Instead they’ve messed around with the upside down style of the X2....

blugh!

INFURIATING ... they're either going to replicate stunning design and bring back the true 8 series in a modern shell or this garbage !

This car looks asian, because it was developed for the asian market. BMW (and others) are selling most of their cars in Asia. So the design has to adress the taste of asian customers. Thats why it looks like a Lexus, thats not a coincidence or sth.

so here is a question for the forum. When I first saw the 6 series I said, ok the 8 series reincarnate. With this thing out, what does the 6 series become? It's already a high end premium GT car. Is this supposed to compete with the Continentals and DB11s? If so I would rather go (faux) British...

In general, the lack of containment. The design is very extrovert, as is the asian customer: A new upper class, wanting to show their success very strongly.

Also, the head- and taillights, very slender designs, overly aggressive. This also reflects the asian customer, you might compare this to the newest Lexus cars.

In Europe, some containment is considered essential for a good, classy style which is expected in that price range of cars. Otherwise you'd get yourself some "show off" yellers for sure. Not in Asia, not at all. The concept of being a show off is unknown to the asian customer. The shinier, bigger, louder - the better.

We will have to wait for the official pictures to see how it really looks. So far it doesn't look good. Specially the rear black plastic trim, probably for M-sport. I mean why does it have to be that weirdly shaped. It makes the car only look cheap. You can't add this big cheap plastic trims to a 100k$+ car. Hope the none M-sport will be better.

I reckon you've hit the nail square on the head!! Here in the UK, I certainly don't see many Brits buying this... too big and waaaaaay to expensive! I can see rich Asians and particularly Arabian oil Barans cruising round in it though for sure!!
