For example - my 2020 M550 has an in service date of Feb 2021. So my factory warranty won’t expire until Feb 2025. I bought it from a non BMW dealer but coverage wise, it ended up being the same as most of the 2021 CPO cars and I got it cheaper!

My car is an extreme example of a very late in service date. But usually the next model year starts production in the summer. So you could have a 2020 with an in service date of 2/1/20 and a 2021 with an in service date of 8/1/20. So they’re really only 6 months apart. Four years later, does that even matter?? Those are the little details you can drill into pretty easy when your comparing preowned cars. Because you’ll still get that extra year of depreciation on the older model year, but if it were later off the production line then it’s not really a full year older than some of the next model year cars that came off the line first.
