The 2018 Geneva Motor Show is just a month away and BMW is in full preparation for the first major European car show of the year. As always, the Bavarians will be well represented on the Swiss auto show floor, with the BMW X4 allegedly making its world debut, alongside M5 Competition Package and to our surprise, a new concept.

According to our sources, the M Division will have a surprise in store for us. The concept debuting in Geneva is based on the 8 Series and M8 platform, but it will be different in style than the M8 Coupe previewed so far.

Before rumors start to spread like fire, it’s our duty to shutdown any speculations around a future M supercar. The concept to be unveiled is a preview of a future production car, but within the 8 Series family and its design.

BMW is expected to release more details within the next few weeks, so stay tuned for details.

I think it'll most likely be the car they previewed a couple days ago, which also seems to be the lightly camouflaged 8 Series we've seen doing laps around an Italian track. That had a V8, and since it's M but not the M8, then maybe an M Performance car ? As far as being a "concept", it could be like the Concept M135i from 2012 (at Geneva too) that was just the M135i with some decals

That makes sense. Do you think they’ll use a V8 for the M performance car and M8?

BMW said that the M8 road car will share its cylinder block and cylinder head with the M8 GTE race car, so it'll have an S63 V8.

As for the M Performance car, rumors say that it'll be an M850i so a V8 car. But at the same time we saw couple weeks ago in crappy spyshots a white 8 Series with the M Sport pack and it was written "850i" on it, not M850i. We've also seen numerous non M Sport looking 8 Series prototypes with V8s, so these should be 850i models as well. Does that mean there will be both an 850i and an M850i ? The M760i has a non M performance version (V12 Excellence) so it's possible. But that car cannot have the M Sport pack, unlike the 850i.

So does all of this mean that they've scraped the M850i for something else (M860i) ? Or maybe there'll be two 850i models at two power levels with one being an M Performance car and the other not but still available with the M Sport pack ?
It's very confusing imo.

I think it will be either a Grand Coupe or a convertible . Don't surprise us with another GT, BMW.

I hope this is their answer. I’d love to see a 1600-1700kg M8.
